Why Gardening Is Good For You

Late spring garden

The benefits of gardening far out weigh most other activities. It is amazing just how much gardening can do for our health. In some senses it is almost like a miracle cure to many ailments in life. Doctors, physiotherapists and psychiatrists all claim that is it good for us, for a number of factors and being a gardener myself, I will testify to the the fact, it is good for you!

-Gardening will strengthen all of the muscles in your body, thereby; making you fitter and stronger because you are exercising them. Older people who garden state it relieves there arthritis because it involves stretching and it helps strengthen the muscles. It also and gives them better strength in their hands as this deteriorates with age.

-Gardening is very therapeutic and relieves mental stress and anxiety. Whenever I am stressed I just go gardening because when I'm gardening, the only thing I think about is gardening, nothing else matters. Sure maybe at first those stressful thoughts are there, but once I get digging, planting or pruning it as though all the negative energy is being released from my body and thus, I forget about everything else. Afterwards I always feel better about my situation, having a more positive perspective.

-Gardening also provides you with fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs, all of which are heal
thier and taste better than store bought and when you grow it you want to eat it, thereby, making yourself healthier at the same time. Fruits, herbs and vegetables all stimulate the heart and gets the blood flowing making your mind and body work better together as one. They also decrease the deterioration of an aging mind, and if that is not enough, they are powerful in antioxidants which the body needs in order to fight diseases such as cancer.

-Gardening gives you motivation because if you have plants then you will want to water them to keep them alive.

-Gardening is a remedy for sleep so if you ever have trouble sleeping go outside and do some gardening, both the fresh air and the physical exertion should work like a charm to help you sleep.

-Gardening makes you smarter because when it concerns gardening, you have to use your creative side, therefore, you use mind and as they say the more you use the mind the smarter you will become because you are strengthening it which is also great as you get older because it reinforces your memory.

-Last but not least gardening is good for because it is fun and when your done gardening you can then relax in your garden and enjoy it but just make sure you have lots of chairs scattered here and there, not only for when you want to relax, but when your working in the garden and need a rest.

For older people or people with disabilities make sure you talk to your doctor before taking gardening up,however, I believe if more doctors offered gardening as a heath alternative over a prescription, there would be a lot healthier people in the world
