Do you have a garden at home? If so, are the plants in your garden growing well? Like us, plants are living things too. And so, we need to take care of them for them to grow well.
But how?
In general, there are four basic things that your plants need: a good soil, water, sunlight, and air. Plant roots need good soil to absorb water and minerals. Roots make plants hold on to the soil and make them stand upright. Like us plants need water too. Water helps plants carry those nutrients from the roots to the other parts of the plants. In order to live, plant must eat too. With enough sunlight and air, plants make the own food in a process called photosynthesis. The gas in the air that plants use for making food is carbon dioxide.
Now that you know what your plants need, you can now have your garden well taking care off. Here are some basic tips of taking care of your garden.
1. Put your potted plants where there is sunlight during the most part of the day. Remember, sunlight will make your plants grow well. Plants can have greener leaves if they get enough sunlight.
2. Give your plants just enough wate
r. Over watering can make the roots rot while under watering can make them dry. A plant that is not watered regularly will become wilted. When either of this happens, your plants die.
3. Till the soil around your plants from time to time. This will loosen the soil and allows water and air to pass through and reach the roots. Water can flow easily to the roots if the soil is loose.
4. Weeds are harmful to plants. Plants cannot grow well if there are weeds growing close to them. When you see weeds sprouting around your plants, you should remove them. Weeds can grow faster than your plants and will use up the nutrients in the soil that are needed by your plants.
5. Some tiny insects are harmful to plants. If you see them on the stems and leaves of your plants, you can brush them away with soap and water.
6. Much of the nutrients in soil maybe used up. Without these nutrients your plants will not grow well. Add compost to the soil. Compost is a mixture of decayed matter from plants and animals. Soil will become fertile when compost is added to it. Therefore, will make your plants grow well.
And like all other living things, plants do need our love and protection in order for them to grow and live well.
